I love the video of you and Lea with your mother. When she had you turn around to show your hair, it seemed like she was having you put on a show. Just wondering, did you ever feel like her validation was through you? That she was, and is, living vicariously through your success?

"Channel your inner vagina and let it sparkle"????
Priceless!
Posted by: charlotte | May 13, 2008 11:46:01 PM
So I just linked this to a friend and followed it by saying
"I want to be her when I grow up", not that I'm not an adult I'm 23, but I just don't FEEL grown. Anyways-- thanks for not being affraid to put it all on the table, and to be silly!!!
Posted by: TaraPants | May 14, 2008 12:22:39 AM
This is very endearing. And funny as all get out. Who is your co-star, her reactions are great?
Posted by: Danielle | May 14, 2008 12:49:23 AM
You are adorable.
That was so funny and you totally pulled it off.
Posted by: Lisa | May 14, 2008 2:06:07 AM
Okay.... I CAN NOT figure out how to embed this into my facebook.
Can you pm me on facebook and let me know? Technology drives me insane sometimes.
Thanks-

I have to tell you, I really thought this was a SATC rip off. Right down to the color of the "May 5". Just be yourself.
Posted by: Lila | May 14, 2008 8:00:02 AM
Sister friend, you are hotter than balls! Can't wait for MOOSE.
Posted by: Sara mee | May 14, 2008 8:51:58 AM
Very nice.
Ana Clark, I do not think you can embed in Facebook, but you may be able to link to it.
Posted by: J | May 14, 2008 8:55:22 AM
I'm lost. Where's the video?
Posted by: Nikki | May 14, 2008 9:41:49 AM
No, officer, I didn't see the stop sign. My inner vagina sparkle got in my eyes.
Posted by: Barbara E. | May 14, 2008 10:11:33 AM
i'm not sure why but the video isn't working on my myspace. it was funny though! so true, so true. gotta love those awkward bathroom encounters.. but usually i'm the other girl who is smiling politely as she awkwardly makes her way to the door.
Posted by: Tamara | May 14, 2008 10:48:07 AM
that was just sort of...weird.
Posted by: jj | May 14, 2008 10:48:52 AM
Love it! MOOSE is gonna be great! See you in Miami.
Posted by: Kara | May 14, 2008 10:55:05 AM
I usually only have positive things to say here, but that's *WAY* too "Sex and the City" for me. I think Sarah Jessica instead of Stephanie, and that's not a good thing.
Cut!
Posted by: Susan | May 14, 2008 11:33:44 AM
My boss just came over to see what I was laughing so hard at. Thanks for making my day.
Posted by: Cynthia M | May 14, 2008 11:36:45 AM
I just added this to my site as well. You rock. The actress with you made some priceless expressions.
Posted by: Linda | May 14, 2008 11:37:46 AM
Priceless! I loveloveLOVE it! And it's up on my blog. You, dear lady, "are hotter than balls!" Although I'm slightly concerned with my B-I-L, who reads my site from work. Hopefully he won't have the volume up too loud. And if he does, I can't wait to hear the reaction! (hehehehe) Sshhhhh.
;-)
Ya know, I think you could be an actress as well Stephanie. I mean as a fall back career. Although I'm sure you have several more books in you; your facial expressions and charisma do translate wonderfully on video! ;-)

A bit over the top. Be a little less dramatic and shorten it a bit and it would be funny.
Posted by: a mom | May 14, 2008 11:55:38 AM
A BIT over the top?! How about totally over the top as it is supposed to be.
I want MOOSE now.
Posted by: Erica | May 14, 2008 12:06:41 PM
That video is so NOT Sex and the City! I've read this blog for years, and to me, it's pure Stephanie. And that's a compliment.
Posted by: midcity | May 14, 2008 12:13:34 PM
I'm a huge SATC fan and I do not think that Stephanie's video reminds me of SATC. I think it was great. Off to embed in myspace...
Posted by: Toni | May 14, 2008 12:25:24 PM
The music was kinda boom-chica-bow-bow-ish but that added to the fun. And I loved that blue shirt the other girl was wearing it looked like it was from anthropologie. I'd also like to post the video on one of my site pages but they're set to private; I purposely don't want anyone I don't know reading them. I guess it makes it pointless.
I agree with a previous commenter: it's hard to pull that off and not look painfully self conscious. You have enough charisma to do it though. Maybe you'll do a walk on on your upcoming tv show? That would be pretty exciting.
Posted by: ATX | May 14, 2008 12:37:51 PM
You are my hero Stephanie! Can't wait for Moose!
Posted by: Jenn | May 14, 2008 12:54:59 PM
I dont want to be entered into the contest (would rather meet you in person in HOTlanta but oh well!) but I will pimp it for you.
I think you did a good job. I like it.
You're trying just enough but not too hard.
And you do look great.
Posted by: Julie | May 14, 2008 1:18:54 PM
Okay the embedding doesnt work on MySpace.
Let us know if you upload it somewhere else (photobucket) and I'll pimp it.
Good luck with the book.
Posted by: Julie | May 14, 2008 1:28:36 PM
It reminded me of very much of something we'd see Elaine Benes do on Seinfeld. It didn't strike me as original or funny. No offense meant, just my 2 cents.
Posted by: Audreyanne | May 14, 2008 1:44:31 PM
Loved this and I've posted it on my blog! I'll be at the store to buy Moose the day it comes out, promise! Can't wait!

Where did you find a bathroom for this? Really professionally done as well sister friend!
Posted by: Lara | May 14, 2008 3:25:58 PM
I was ready to roll my eyes, but I do this all the time so I had to share it with my friends. Very funny!
Posted by: Katie | May 14, 2008 3:37:20 PM
Just added your video to my blog.
Did you write this or was it improve? Awesomely funny!
Posted by: Rebecca | May 14, 2008 3:54:06 PM
Man, your book readings must be as entertaining as all get out. Sparkle on, pretty lady!
Posted by: misstraceynolan | May 14, 2008 3:56:31 PM
You look like a chunker. Sorry. I'm glad you're happy at your current weight though. Also, you need some more layers around the face. And as far as the acting goes? Stick to writing "sister friend."
Posted by: me | May 14, 2008 4:05:14 PM
LOVED it. On my blog and facebook.
Posted by: marcy | May 14, 2008 4:57:44 PM

I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!! The video doesn't show on my space. any clue what's wrong with it? I am super excited to enter into the contest.
Posted by: Erika | May 14, 2008 5:45:21 PM
Oh, this is SO fantastic. There is something about you clearly not taking yourself seriously that makes you all the more endearing. ROCK IT sistafrien.
Posted by: smallstatic | May 14, 2008 6:53:50 PM
I clicked over to your blog and work. Once I saw the title I thought, oh no, the internet police are going to think I'm surfing p0rn sites!
But the video is hilarious. You are very brave.

Posted by: tamara | May 14, 2008 8:40:07 PM
What I loved most about this video is it has nothing at all to do with the book MOOSE besides having a shot of the cover. How f*cking clever. You made a funny video. Bravo!
Posted by: Linda | May 14, 2008 9:04:41 PM
Very cute! You MUST watch "Affirmation Girl" by Lisa Nova on Youtube...you will laugh your butt off. She does videos almost exactly like yours!
Posted by: bestmansgrl | May 14, 2008 9:25:25 PM
You should make a few of these. Maybe some webisodes? Great job!
Posted by: Jessie | May 14, 2008 10:41:54 PM
It's not SATC. It's half the Golden Girls - Blanche Devereaux and Dorothy Zbornak combined into one.
Posted by: Sallie | May 14, 2008 11:00:36 PM
Wow. The comment that you are a 'chunker' killed me. I guess 99.9% of us are 'chunkers' in your high opinion 'me'. Let's see you do a short video so we can critique? Thanks.
Posted by: janey | May 14, 2008 11:17:29 PM
Oh. Guess you can't post a video 'me'. Your site is somehow mysteriously missing. Shame.
Posted by: janey | May 14, 2008 11:18:42 PM
me: you're funny.
Posted by: jj | May 15, 2008 12:47:32 AM
email me and i'll be happy to provide photographic proof of my non-chunkerness. um... i don't post videos on the internet... because not everyone should. only funny people should. i'm not a comedienne, hence i'm sparing everyone. as should stephanie.
Posted by: me | May 15, 2008 1:41:44 AM
Sorry, I found this canned. Sorry, but it reminded me of Michael Scott (the Office). You look great, though.
Posted by: nh | May 15, 2008 7:47:54 AM
This is what is great about the internet. I love how you can make a fun video which doesn't speak at all about your book except for a screen shot of the cover and people can-
1- Get angry enough at you to complain you're marketing your book
2- critique this 45 seconds as if it is the oscars
3- Evaluate your weight
4- Compare this video which ahs nothing to do with SATC nor is anything like SATC to SATC
Man, you have think skin. I'd delete those comments. Congratulations on doing a great job of making people smile. I know you didn't have a movie studio budget and created something for fun. It worked. Those who can't do as you do anonymously criticize.
I love the internet.
Posted by: Missy | May 15, 2008 8:24:44 AM
Whatever happened to that age old statement? You know the one where if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Imagine how much nicer the world would be if people would filter their rude comments a little more...
I personally thought it was pretty funny. No excuse me while I let my inner vagina sparkle.
Posted by: kells | May 15, 2008 9:09:56 AM
I think you are pretty, I think the video should have been shorter and I think you chose possibly the most unflattering outfit imaginable.
Posted by: Wendy | May 15, 2008 9:33:59 AM
Hilarious! You found the perfect balance between sarcasm, narcisism, self deprecation.
Love your top! Wear did you get it?
Posted by: Lana | May 15, 2008 9:43:38 AM
Girl in the bathroom stall is the best. I love her. She was wise to keep quiet - conversations are probably best foresworn with this bobcat.
Posted by: Franny | May 15, 2008 10:14:20 AM
I personally thought the video was a little over the top and would've been funnier if the attitude had been toned down a bit.. but who gives a crap? It was a funny, cute video and I really think SK is exceptionally stunning.
"Me," why exactly do you stick around if things are so fat and unfunny around here? I'm not suggesting you leave; I'm just surprised that someone would put so much energy into tearing down. There must be a reason.
Posted by: Lisa | May 15, 2008 10:25:11 AM
ok...i'm going to sound really out of it here, but is the video coming fromn a link to youtube? if not, where?
i thought it was funny. and like my mama always said, "screw 'em if they don't get the joke". jezzz...
Posted by: Yecats | May 15, 2008 11:02:25 AM
Poor "me" -- sometimes the very things we can't stand in others are the exact things we hate about ourselves. You said Stephanie needs layers?? Well you, sister friend, are in desperate need of a personality and some attention.
Anticipating your retort with bated breath....
Posted by: Maya | May 15, 2008 11:20:17 AM
I thought the video was over the top... but was meant to be. I thought it would have been funnier if someone (ie Stephanie) was giving themselves that very same pep talk quite seriously and getting more and more into it until the end when the person came out of the stall. Either way... I would not have the guts to put up any video of myself on the internet.
Yecats... is your name Stacey?
Posted by: inial | May 15, 2008 1:51:32 PM
Sorry, but ew. Does selling your book mean you have to make yourself into a total cliche crazy self-help mess? I liked your blog a lot better when it was really about you, and not all this hype.
Posted by: A | May 15, 2008 4:06:13 PM
Loved it! I totally give myself that same pep talk every day in the bathroom at work. ;-)
Posted by: Sarah | May 16, 2008 12:09:11 AM
The video was sort of cute, I think I would like it better if it were toned down a bit. I prefer subtle humor. But I can see where others will think this was great.
I have to agree with A, though, that I find the obvious promotional "posts" really, really annoying. I think it's safe to say that everyone reading here knows you have a book coming out. And if we didn't, the sidebar is a great place to let us know. But sticky-ing a marketing piece at the top of the blog that you've always claimed was your personal, uncensored "outlet" (which is one reason so many of us like to read what you write here) reeks of selling out.
Are you required by contract to pimp yourself to your readers this way? Or better yet, to ask your readers to pimp your book for you? That's kind of the only way I can understand why this is here.
Posted by: amanda b | May 16, 2008 9:12:45 AM
Hilarious.
And you have AMAZING hair.
Posted by: Nicole | May 16, 2008 11:47:48 AM
ininal, yes, that is correct. :)
Posted by: Yecats | May 16, 2008 12:45:37 PM
Usually 60+ comments means some ridiculous controversy is going on over a post. Oh, wait... Watched it, realized it was to promote Moose, chuckled, carried on with the day
Posted by: Amy H | May 16, 2008 1:11:43 PM
So if there is an inner vagina, does that mean there is an outer one, too? The gal from the stall had the right idea. Don't say out loud what she surely must be thinking.

I have to admit, with this video, I'm not sure who Stephanie is. Was it a characture? Not who I thought you were... honestly.
Posted by: BethM | May 16, 2008 7:54:17 PM
where oh where did sk go? ew.
Posted by: tootoo | May 17, 2008 9:44:14 AM
So f*cking hilarious. I clicked over from seeing this on Yahoo.com's homepage. Funny stuff. I'm preordering MOOSE.
Posted by: Tara | May 17, 2008 9:46:53 AM
So, I get that this blog is now a plug for the new book. Everything needs marketing. With this economy, and since this an open forum, I want to share what I do. Instead of buying the book, I will either read it from the library, or maybe buy it used on half.com. And every month, with the money I save, I donate to my charity of choice. There are a lot of people out there now, in your neighborhood, that can barely afford to put food on the table and gas in the car. I enjoy reading about Stephanies Fab life, and my life is pretty good too, but I do not feel a compelling need to contribute toward her riches, when there are others who need it more right now.

Holy crap! That was hysterical! Am I the only one that thought you channeled a bit of Elaine Bennis there?

I just added the video! See you tonight!
Posted by: Andria and Co. | May 27, 2008 1:46:56 AM
I added you today, I hope it is not too late. I have just found your blog.
Heather
PS my nickname in school was moose also, along with jabba the hutt. Those names hurt. I plan to buy and read your book when I can afford it. If I send it to you, could you sign it??
Thanks
Posted by: Heather | Jun 3, 2008 10:09:04 AM
kudos for posting the negative comments. sorry to add to it, but my opinion is that it's the real you. some of your blogs are sooo pretentious and when dicussing nyc - you sounded like a wannabe carrie bradshaw. you overcame being fat, and now think you are alot prettier than you are. sorry to say - redheads are not hot, and you don't have any pretty features. and lose the "sister girlfriend" don't try to be ghetto when some of your blogs are so martha stewartesque. don't mean to be "hating" just my humble opinion. in spite of this you are a good writer. bon chance!
